Side-by-Side Detailing in Arizona: Getting the Desert Out of Your UTV

What a side-by-side detail actually involves after a ride at Box Canyon or Table Mesa, what you can do at home, and when to call a mobile detailer.

October 23, 2026 · by Nathan — Delightful Desert Detailing

Riding season is here. Once the Valley cools off, the trails at Box Canyon, Table Mesa, and around Lake Pleasant fill back up, and side-by-sides start coming home looking nothing like they did when they left the driveway.

A side-by-side isn’t a car, and it shouldn’t be cleaned like one. Here’s what’s different about detailing a UTV, what you can handle at home, and when it makes sense to have someone else do it.

Why a side-by-side is harder to clean than a car

A car keeps the desert on the outside. A side-by-side doesn’t. With no full doors or windows, dust ends up everywhere you sit and everything you touch.

The cage and tube work. Fine sand settles on every bar and collects in every joint and weld seam. It looks like a quick wipe, but there’s a lot of surface on a roll cage.

Seats and harnesses. Harness webbing traps dust deep in the weave, and fabric seats do the same. The Arizona sun is also hard on seat vinyl, which can dry out and crack when it sits in the heat with grit ground into it.

Body panels. Most side-by-sides wear a lot of textured plastic. Harsh degreasers and the wrong brushes can leave it chalky or scratched, so it needs gentler chemistry than you might expect for something built to get dirty.

Underneath. Mud dries hard in the suspension, the skid plates, and the wheel wells. If you came back from the lake, you also get a mix of trail dust, lake grit, and sunscreen residue that’s surprisingly stubborn.

What you can do after every ride

Some of this is easy to handle yourself, and the sooner you do it, the less work it is later.

Rinse it soon. Dried mud and dust are much harder to get off once they bake on in the sun. A gentle rinse the same day helps a lot.

Go easy with the pressure washer. Keep your distance, and don’t aim high pressure straight at electrical connectors, bearings, seals, or the air intake. Your owner’s manual will tell you what to protect on your machine.

Blow out the dust before you wipe. A leaf blower or compressed air on the seats, harnesses, and dash moves most of the loose sand. Wiping first just grinds it into the surface.

Shade it when you can. Parking out of direct sun between rides is one of the easiest ways to protect seats, plastics, and graphics.

What a professional side-by-side detail includes

We offer two side-by-side packages, both done at your place.

Side by Side Express Detail, $199. A quick refresh after a weekend on the trail: a safe wash, a wipe-down, and a reset. Good for a machine that gets ridden often and cleaned regularly.

Side by Side Full Detail, $399. The full treatment: an undercarriage rinse, an interior and cage detail, and fabric cleaning. This is the one for a machine that’s been ridden hard for a while, or one you’re getting ready to sell.

On both, we use compressed air to pull dust out of the places a rag can’t reach, and we pick products for the surface in front of us. We work around bed-liner coatings and tube work without damaging them, and we don’t use car-paint chemistry on a UTV. If you want protection on the painted panels, ask us about ceramic options when you call.

You can see some of our recent work on a black Polaris RZR Pro and a red RZR XP 1000.

Express or Full: which one do you need?

If you can still see the color of the seats and the harnesses buckle without grinding, Express will probably get you back to clean. If there’s mud packed in the suspension, dust caked into the webbing, or you can’t remember the last time it was properly cleaned, go with the Full Detail. When in doubt, send us a photo and we’ll tell you what we’d recommend.

Mobile detailing for trailers, HOAs, and storage lots

Most side-by-sides live on a trailer, in a garage, or at a storage lot, and a lot of Valley HOAs have rules about working on vehicles in the driveway. Because we’re mobile, we come to wherever the machine is. If your community restricts work at home, we can often detail it at your storage lot instead. Just tell us the setup when you call.

We’re based in Glendale near 51st Avenue and Bell Road, and we serve Glendale, Peoria, North Phoenix, Cave Creek, and most of the Greater Phoenix Area.

See all of our specialty vehicle packages, including golf carts, RVs, boats, and motorcycles, or check the off-road detail page if you’re bringing a Jeep or an overland rig. When you’re ready, call or text us with the make, model, and where it’s been, and we’ll get it back ready for the next ride.
